MY ULTIMATE MISS USA 2014 PREDICTIONS
The time has finally dawned for Erin
Brady to pass her crown as Miss USA at Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The 50 states
plus the District of Columbia are gathered once again to fight for one of the
most prestigious national beauty pageant in the world. Winning Miss USA not
only propels the girl into stardom but also assures her the goodies at Miss
Universe, both pageants being headed under one organization.
As Erin passes her baton, this year’s
production has some changes (besides the lack of the preliminary video, oh well). Firstly, the venue has moved out of Nevada. There is a top twenty cut: 5 more girls will get to battle for
the crown. And during the top ten evening gown competition, viewers and fans
can vote online for their favorite finalist and save her a spot in the final
line-up to the crown.
So without any further ado, here are
my predictions in the reverse order.
SEMIFINALISTS
NEW JERSEY – Emily Shah
She is a testimony to the cultural
diversity of the US. With an Indian heritage, Emily can bank on the success of
another Indian-American Nina Davuluri, who recently became the first
Indian-American Miss America this year, bringing the Indian community in
America to spotlight. Besides, Emily has done decent enough in the competition
that should assure her a spot.
CONNECTICUT – Desiree Perez
Connecticut made history last year by
becoming the only state to bag Miss USA and Miss Teen USA crowns in the same
year. The home state of the outgoing queen has fielded a Venezuelan-born
damsel. Being a beauty contestant associated with the pageant-powerhouse
Venezuela brings a lot of expectations and although, Desiree to me is petite, I
feel she has a very pretty face and I liked her gown choice too.
HAWAII – Moani Hara
This beauty from the Pacific Ocean has
a latina tinge to her. Moani is not your typical Aloha girl. She edged her
chances with a clean showing in swimsuit and a classic black sheer gown with a
bun.
MASSACHUSSETTS –
Caroline Lunny
Caroline Lunny tugs at your heart’s
strings with her adorable face. I couldn't deny her a spot after looking at her
beautiful white gown. She was a former Miss Teen USA semifinalist and if
Massachusetts can get a surprise placement last year, I don’t see a reason why
this girl should not.
WISCONSIN – Bishara
Dorre
Bishara’s ebony skin with her sexy
vibes makes her stand out instantaneously. Earlier I would wait for the
preliminaries to decide my verdict on this girl and she delivered. Of the
yellow gowns in this competition, I felt Bishara has worked it well and she has
a fit body too.
NEVADA – Nia Sanchez
So what if the venue has moved out of
Nevada? Nia Sanchez can be a good reminder that Nevada will still dazzle. She
is styled well and her gown was one of
the most refreshing choices of the preliminary night. Nia Sanchez also finished
first runner-up to Nana Meriwether (Miss USA 2012) at Miss California USA 2010,
a competitive state pageant, so I am guessing she has the stage chops.
UTAH – Angelia Layton
I know her gown is run of the mill (a
bad imitation of Mary Margaret McCord’s last year), but Angelia is such an
angel, the only thing missing are two wings and a halo. Her cherubic face is
something that usually hits with the Miss USA, so I am suspecting a placement
for her.
NEBRASKA – Amanda Soltero
Before the preliminary night, I
wouldn’t even have had considered Amanda Soltero. She entered the stage with
that sleek black hair, a fine body and a nude gown with lines that accentuated
her curves. The fate was sealed: she instantly transformed into a semifinalist
material
OHIO – Maddison Gesiotto
Maddison is one of the noticeable
transformations from the time she won her state pageant. Back there, I felt her
runner-ups were facially striking, not to forget the fourth runner-up India
Simone, an ebony who sported a Parisienne model look. Maddison has convinced us
why she has triumphed over them all. Her face is beaming with radiance and her
gown coupled with her styling also left a mark.
ILLINOIS – Lexi Atkins
Lexi Atkins is no stranger to national
pageants. She was one of the top two standing for the Miss Teen USA 2010 crown but I am not feeling the momentum with her.
Lexi has the cute Barbie face that is likable and she also has an acting
background. Her gown (a copy of Erin Brady’s number at Miss Universe 2013) and
her body are decent enough.
FINALISTS
MARYLAND – Taylor Burton
Maryland has a Hollywood aura around
her, she can be simple yet scream glamor girl on stage. Her body is bang on,
though I am not sure about her prelim choice of gown.
NORTH DAKOTA – Audra Mari
Audra also stood in the final two at
Miss Teen USA during the year 2011. It is interesting to see two Miss Teen USA
first runner-ups in the same year as it ups the excitement as to who would edge
each other out. Audra Mari’s face is very marketable and according to me,
Gabriela-Isler-esque. Her hot body and her womanly frame is a yes to me, though
I am not sure of her preliminary gown choice, unless she changes it on finale
night.
NEW YORK – Candace Kendall
I dig the delegate from the Big Apple.
Her face has got this chiseled bone structure, body is bang on and the gown
was also impacting. The only reason why she might be a hit or miss case is her
cold stance, which I think she should do away with a little warmth or
perkiness.
ALABAMA – Jessica Ahlberg
The state of Bam Bam Bama always send
great girls to this pageant and this year is no expectation just for one reason:
that face. Jessica’s face is next-doorsy yet sophisticated In this pageant, she
arguably photographs the best. Alabama’s performance also has been noticeable:
a decent body and a black gown on nude. My only qualm is that she is just
there, trying to bank on her pretty face. If she has some good stage chops like
Mary Margaret McCord next year, Jessica has a shot for the crown.
5TH RUNNER-UP
– LOUISIANA – Brittany Guidry
Leave alone the hometown factor aside.
Louisiana’s Brittany Guidry would have earned a placement regardless of turf.
Her presence is magnetic and she surely dons a workable blue gown that can earn
her brownies, just based on its movement. Brittany Guidry needs some curves on
her body though but she masks it up well. A win on home turf? Not a distant possibility for this former Miss Teen USA runner-up.
4TH RUNNER-UP
– FLORIDA – Brittany Oldehoff
She has the experience of being in
Project Runaway, so Brittany definitely has the guns. Blessed with a face that
is demure yet magnetic and a bang-on body, Brittany can take the Miss USA crown
easily. However, I feel she is overshadowed by other strong contenders, so we
shall see what her fate is. Florida never won this crown and assumed one in the
60’s, so can they do it this year?
3RD RUNNER-UP
– SOUTH CAROLINA – Christina
Zapolski
Who can miss a blonde bombshell
standing tall at a staggering 6 feet. Christina Zapolski knows to balance the
fine line between looking modelesque yet very pageant-girl. I dare say she
might even take home the crown and she would do fantastic as a Miss USA. Her body
is to die for and that white gown can save the world.
2ND RUNNER-UP
– TENNESSEE – Kristy Landers Niedenfuer
Kristy is arguably the face of the pageant. Based on her looks and that curvaceous bod alone, I can shoo in the crown on her head. But then, it is a shame for her make-up artists giving her such a bad styling. It looks vintage in a bad way and her gown choice also washes her off. If she does have a gown change or perhaps a hair updo, that would make wonders for her. As mentioned earlier, Tennessee won their first crown in 2000, the next in 2007, so in 2014, can it be their third based on a seven-year cycle? Tennessee’s earlier winners have had been phenomenal, so I think Kristy can take it all, if she does it all right on finale.
1ST RUNNER-UP
– GEORGIA – Tiana Griggs
When she steps on the stage, her smile
and aura can light up a thousand rooms. Tiana is that kind of ebony American
beauty that you normally don’t see vying for the Miss USA crown: she has the
womanliness of Crystal Stewart yet being insanely sexy and she has the fun
personality of Rachel Smith yet being glamorous at all times. Add to that she
is a good speaker. If Miss USA is looking for a colored winner this year, then
it has to be Georgia, hands down.
MISS USA 2014 –
MINNESOTA – Haley O’Brien
She initially caught my attention for
being a deadringer of Miss Universe Australia 2013 Olivia Wells. When she
stepped in Baton Rouge, it wan upscale climb for her. From the portraiture to
the glam shot to the preliminaries, Haley just shined in all. Her pout is sexy,
her smile is alluring, and when she dons that blue gown (although I don’t like
the skirt), she just glows on stage. This is a competition which can have
unsuspected girls like Olivia Culpo, Erin Brady and the likes can appear from
nowhere and eat the contenders alive and this year if it has to be anybody, than
I can only think of Minnesota. Go girl!
