MY fbb FEMINA MISS INDIA 2014 REVIEW

MY fbb FEMINA MISS INDIA 2014 REVIEW

by Lisbern Shawn

Predicting a national beauty pageant is no way an easy task than predicting an international beauty pageant. The million dollar question is not only: “Who is that girl who has got it what all it takes?” It is also: “What is that the organization looking for in a given year?” According to me, the latter influences the national pageants to an extent, as the countries (at least the ones who take pageants seriously) constantly have a tough time experimenting and envisaging which girl would be the perfect representative at a particular international pageant.
Coming back to fbb Femina Miss India 2014, it is an enormous task picking the three best and the seven other probable girls from a lot of 24 promising candidates. This year saw a production of such a diverse variety of looks: from north Indian kudis to city bred metro-divas to south Indian belles to dusky beauties. Some of them really command that presence whenever they are up for it while some can beguile you when they open their mouths. Add to it, a different pageant director taking over this year. It is really a hair-scratching task as to who will emerge victorious, amidst all odds. So without further ado, here are my predictions. In reverse order.

#10 (Multimedia fast-track winner)

IRSHIKAA MEHROTRA

My tenth spot is occupied by the girl who will be fast-tracked through the multimedia challenge. According to the grapevine, Irshikaa Mehrotra and Aarpita Kaur are in contention for this spot. Although Aarpita has an enigmatic face and speaks really well, it is not hard to see that she is raw in some departments. That is why it made me narrow down to Irshikaa. Though I am not a major fan of her, Irshikaa has won the Miss Smile subtitle, which says that the jury has taken note of her beauty. When she smiles, she can really be a potential stealer and she can speak well too.

#9 TENETTI JOGA BHANU

TJ Bhanu was the least suspected to make an impact when the top 25 were revealed. However, TJ Bhanu went against all conventions and stood apart with her own unique personality which she herself describes as “hundred percent real.” Having a following of her own and winning the Miss Vivacious title has also proved that this girl is extremely likeable. Besides, TJ Bhanu’s beauty exemplifies the girl-next-outdoorsy type which might click with the organization. Another potential crown stealer.

#8 ARADHANA NAYAR

Aradhana is one of the best spoken delegates this year. Her deep voice is reminiscent of the golden 90’s era. I have given this spot to her as Aradhana as she is my sentimental favorite. Blessed with a chiseled face, hour-glass figure and a competitive edge, she can easily be a shoo-in representative for India at an international pageant. Her glamor shot was picture-perfect. However it is a shame that her beauty might not be everyone’s cup of tea. At some angles, her features appear harsh. That’s where I think, unluckily enough, Aradhana might fall short.

#7 JHATALEKA MALHOTRA

She was seen at Miss Diva last year, Jhataleka has returned to Femina with a true diva attitude. Her looks are urban and her picture shots can make any one take notice of her. Jhataleka, purely based on overall styling, is ready to be fielded in any beauty pageant, internationally. Touted as one of the three girls who might take the crown on finale night, I am feeling that Jhataleka has less momentum compared to her other contenders. She needs more training in the speaking department.

 #6 JANTEE HAZARIKA

Jantee is a pleasant surprise in this batch. She is a Natasha Suri meets Akuono Khenzie. Her oriental looks gift-wrapped in a gorgeous dusky skin makes her stand out instantly. Her presence is great enough for her to be left out and I think she would make an unique representative for India. If she turns up her vivacious side or atleast give an impacting answer (she has a cute accent), it won’t be hard for this North-east Indian to take it all.

TOP FIVE
2nd runner-up: ASHWATI RAMESH

Tally, dusky, fit and gorgeous: it would be shame to ignore this girl. I was genuinely surprised why she didn’t win Miss Body Beautiful. According to me, the curves on her body are killer. Her facial features are so Miss Venezuela. Her height and skin tone, coupled with her personality can make her turn heads anywhere she goes. Ashwati might not deliver that big in the question-answer department, according to me. Other than that, I will have no problem with her taking the crown on finale night.

1st runner-up: NIKHILA NANDGOPAL

Nikhila is no goddess, let’s admit. Neither she have the perfect body nor the best deliverance in speaking. Nevertheless, her exuberant fresh face can launch a thousand ships. When she smiles, you are glued to her looks from neck-up. Winning Miss Hair signifies that she is going to come up with some great styling on final night, which will add more caliber to her face. If at all, Nikhila is chosen to represent India at an international pageant, she will do extremely well. But before that, she has miles to go in the departments of physique and speaking well.

MISS INDIA SUPRANTIONAL: YOSHIKI SINDHAR

Yoshiki has been on my radar inconsistently. Her photo shoots scream top notch quality. She has a tall frame and her face is blessed with a chiseled bone structure. However, I have a gut feeling that the stars are inclined for this lady as she does speak really well and can work the ramp with her assets. Her body still needs further toning and with proper styling, this Punjabi girl has the potential to fetch brownies.

MISS INDIA EARTH: VARSHA GOPAL

For me, Varsha is an overall package of the pageant. Her beauty is a tantalizing combination of the girl-next-door to a sexy-siren. Her tall height is a blessing. Her dusky skin tone and her aura instantly reminds you of the freshness Nicole Faria had brought to the plate of Miss India and Miss Earth. Varsha Gopal is girl who speaks genuinely from the heart and her major plus is that she will be an equally great contender, be it Miss World or Miss Earth or Miss Universe. Varsha has the Miss Ramp Walk title to her kitty which speaks a lot of her stage presence.

MISS INDIA WORLD: KOYAL RANA

A rather predictable choice for the top slot, Koyal has turned heads since she was a teen. Winning a national teen beauty pageant to grabbing the Delhi heat of Femina, I see no hitch why Koyal won’t win Miss India also and probably Miss World. This girl really embodies a Miss World beauty. Fresh, armed with a beautiful smile and a genuine concern to help, Koyal can be a great successor to Megan and bring India’s sixth Miss World crown home. Add to that, these are not Koyal’s only ammunition. Her walk is impacting and her photos can send any temperatures soaring. Her body might be skinny for some people’s taste but according to me, it shouldn’t be a major hitch as it is already toned. With a mesmerizing voice, Koyal is my winner right from day one.
